I have run into some very peculiar GL9 behavior on a couple of old sites. Maybe it is something in the sites themselves that #9 can't handle. But it scares me a bit. I had encountered it before when I was messing around with that one page CSS art site, and it was the reason I quit. I figured nobody ought to be building a page with a hundred hide and seek layers on it anyway. (Show-Hide Action).
But yesterday, I was really glad I make backups, because I thought I'd fix a small error on a client's site that had been turned over to the client's bother in law.
It was a small formatting thing. The page was in tables. All I did was to re- link something. Simple. So I did it live, since It was so simple. Then I saved the page and it had spasms, turned black, switched between source code and WYSYWYG twice, and then settled down in WSYWYG with the table cells all collapsed that the images re- sized to be about 1/5th their height and running clear across the page in a streak.
So I hauled out my backup, and with trepidation, made two additional backups of the whole site, one of them on another disk, opened it up, and fortunately made three or four backup copies of the home page. Every time I tried to relink those links, it die the same dance and screwed up the whole page. I tried it over and over with the same result.
I trashed the preferences and it still did it. I deleted the site files and made a complete new site. Same thing. I changed disks and used the GL9 installation on my backup disk. Same thing.
So I closed GL9 and launched GL 8 (CS2) . No problem. I think the site was originally made in GL 6. I didn't have 6 or 7 installed, but 8 worked just fine and no heebie jeebies and messed up page.
Does anyone have any explanation or theories on this?
