I built a multi-page site for a client, with the pages based on a template, with multiple editable areas. I filled the pages with dummy text, and uploaded to the server. The client has been dropping in the real content with Contribute. The site is about ready to go live, but I need to make a site-wide change, via the template.
So I just download the up-to-date pages and overwrite my local copies, then make the template-change, right? Wrong.
Problem is, I have the GL pref's set to strip GL-specific code on upload (my standard setting), so all of the template-related code is gone from the uploaded pages with the real content. As the say in Springfield... D'oh!!
As I see it, I'll have to download the updated pages separately, then copy/paste the content into the template-linked pages. Before I do that, does anyone know of a way to automate the process, something I'm not thinking of?
Seems worth asking.
TIA,
Keith
(PS: The other thing I considered was trying to do a Find & Replace to re-insert all of the template-related GL comments. Seems to have more of a potential to totally screw things up, compared to the safe but plodding approach.)
