check to see if a corresponding record exists in an ODBC data source without using a script?
FM Help says that performing a Lookup() function only returns "?" when performed on an ODBC table, and I see no other function that will get the job done. I also checked Brian Dunning's custom functions library, no joy there, either.
What I'm trying to accomplish is determine if an identically-keyed record exists in both FMP and its counterpart record in MySQL. In a script, I use "Go to Related Record" and check for Error 101, but I need a function I can place in a calc field to accomplish the same task.
Initially, I tried the expression FM::RecordID = MySQL::RecordID, but this always evals to TRUE, even when it should eval to FALSE because the counterpart record does not exist in MySQL.
Any suggestions? Are there External Functions that will do this? If so, where do I find one?
Thanks!
