More Breaking News: Once more into the Breach, Dear Friends ... I have almost got it.
Henry V had the right idea. That Scottish spiderman Robert The Bruce did, too.
Anyway, if you all would not mind too much, I'd appreciate it if those who have it, would take a peek at this: <http://www.theperfectstick.com/space2/ > in some version of IE and tell me if it is intact. A screenshot and what version along with the report would be nice, too, if it isn't displaying right.
I am already tired of this gallery, but once thought it was nice. All the trouble, I suppose, took the edge off it. Or maybe I'm just tired.
Miles was right about the sloppy code. The author had scattered parameters all through it. Not just in the css file, but in the javascript, too ... and the javascript is really delicate. One little change and it dies. For example, sometimes you can get away with a / * ------ */ and sometimes it breaks the whole thing. Sometimes I can put a 'none' in an unwanted setting and sometime it screws everything up and all you can see is a blue square in IE. There are hundreds of pages with workarounds and hacks for getting a website past IE ... and I can see why.
I noticed at the beginning that I could not get the link underneath the pictures to behave like ordinary links. They were solid white with an underline and overrode the .css links. Well, I got rid of the solid white and the eternal underline, but now I can't get the underline to appear on mouseover because it is superseded by a "none" in the js code .. and trying to comment that out, just breaks the whole thing. I can live with that, and usually don't want one anyway, but gee whiz, what if I really wanted an underline.
At least it now works in the I IE's I have here. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly how I got it to work in Firefox and its relations, and IE at the same time. It came from a suggestion I found on the web, and I thought I'd bookmarked the site, but apparently hid if well from myself.
*** There is one thing that still bugs me. I have totally and completely not found where the link text is set. It doesn't seem to be in either the css or the .js, and does not seem to be in the index.html file, either. And it looks miniscule on my screen.
So if anybody has a hunch about that, I'm all ears.
TIA ... Doug
