May I ask this very knowledgeable list about Mac HDs please -- I know
it's off topic?

Two of our LaCie external hard disks have failed in the past few
months and, having read various worldwide opinions of LaCie, I'm
looking for reliable HDs.

My son (PC and probably anti-Mac because his mother's a bit of an
addict!) says to get Samsung SpinPoint HDs and to buy enclosures. I'm
quite willing to do this but have been unable to find a site which
will tell me, categorically, that the HDs are compatible with Macs
and the connection. Other makes of HD itemise USB, Firewire, Windows,
Mac OS9/X, Linux etc.

As the Samsung SpinPoints are sATA, does that mean they're also
compatible with Mac ... ?

Finding an enclosure will probably be quite simple (fingers crossed).
