OT: Google search question (re sitemap.xml)
I've gone brain-dead on implementing a custom search engine with Google.
It seemed it once was a much more elaborate process, involving using Rob's killer extension for generating the xml file, along with getting an API and the appropriate code from Google based on information I input into their form.
But I just obtained another code snippet for a new project and it was fast, simple, easy, and works fine...apparently without my having to generate the site.xml file.
I'm sure I'm missing something here because obviously Google still makes use of that file, so I must show my age (I have CRS: Can't remember s@#t) and ask what the advantage is of also generating the xml sitemap if the search code works without it?
I'm guessing it has to do with rankings and better search results, but....thing is, my new search engine seems to return the requested information quite nicely.
