I forgot to say what to hover over to see the image map behaviors. Both image are at upper left: one is a seabird ("tufted puffin") swimming underwater (under remote monitoring buoy) and the other is a yellow, aerodynamic-looking vessel ("Seaglider") just above and to left of the large six-gill shark image.
Also, here's the original set up for the image map with the ugly tooltip issue:
http://wsg.washington.edu/calendar_2010r1.html
I changed the seaglider title so there's no html in it. Looks better for tooltip popup, but then the URL in the full-sized image caption is not a live link. Tufted puffin image is with html a href code. Client doesn't want to see the code in the tooltip.
So...barring an easy solution with Lightbox2 or css:
Is there a way to HIDE THE TOOLTIP? I scoured the web, no joy, but I'd be happy to be told I had computer myopia.
