[OT] Setting MIME types for iCal files
Hi, all!
My situation is that I have .ics files (Event and ToDo items for Apple iCal) being served over the web.
My problem is that, instead of them downloading to the client system as files that can then be dragged into iCal, they are displayed as text in a new window.
This is bad.
In the deep recesses of my memory, I seem to remember that one uses the .htaccess file on a UNIX box to tell Apache about any MIME types you want to define in addition to those already defined in its configuration.
TRUE FALSE (please check one :-)
Regardless, I would appreciate your assistance with the following: 1. What is the correct MIME type for an iCal .ics file? 2. What is the correct method (if not .htaccess) for defining this MIME type within a website's filespace without having access to the server config? 3. What is the correct syntax for defining this MIME type within the file?
If one of you already has such defined somewhere and can cut-and-paste the code into an off-list email, I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
