[OT] of course, but a challenge to all us old guys

Thanks for providing the link to archive.org. My web design experience is hobbist in nature, I don't do commerical sites, but mine has progress since the time I first used GoLive 5.5. Boy, was that a learning curve. I still remember it trashing my whole site when I ran cleanup. But I persisted, and used the site for experimenting with web design. Depending exclusively on a GUI for layout I reached a deadlock and finally took an HTML class.
At the same time I was working at an educational assessment products publishing company in the online production department. It was nothing glamorous, just entering data in forms designed by another company. They didn't want us see the XML, nor the finished product, but it was a beginning. After about a year and a half I switched to the print production side. That was really an awakening. That's when I really learned about style and content and how it's important that it be consistent. Good grammar helps too! Well, I knew about style from the online department, but it takes on a different importance in the print world.
I like the background color of my original site, but not much more. Since it's a hobby site, it changes as my taste evolves. Web design has advance so much in the last few years, and I feel I'll never catch up. Not writing code beyond HTML is a real detriment, so it's best I stick to a personal site. All of you provide so much inspiration. Thanks for putting up with a novice.
PS My first experience in web browsing was with Delphi internet provided. I think it was owned by the Murdock group. It was the time of The X-Files, and being a fan of the show I wanted access to all the web content. This was before GUI browsers, and on a 286 (AT?) machine with a 2400 baud modem it was a challenge. I remember the moderator of the X-Files forum telling me I had to upgrade if I wanted to keep up... and he was right.
