Just a quick note especially for the mac users out there. When I hear folks talking about which browsers they have checked for compatibility today I've noted they often are not mentioning Opera. True not much for a user base, which I find a bit surprising since I always thought it a fairly nice offering, although not my default either. One quirk it does have though for mac users working on PPC G5 and G4 units yet though is most of the layout quirks that occur in IE 7 will show up in Opera as well even though IE6 and 8 are fine.
I'm not going to say this is a hard and fast rule, but I've seen it so many times I thought it merited mentioning. So I think it likely if you fix it for Opera, you will likely fix any IE 7 problems at the same time. Mileage may vary on this as Opera updates, which they do quite often. However Opera will continue to be one of my browser checks, at least for current versions.
I wonder why Opera doesn't do better. It loads faster then Firefox, has a bunch of extras, and one very redeeming feature on the URL right click menu...."Paste and go", very nice. I wish everyone would steal that one. Safari stole part of it's idea for popular site thumbnails from Opera, although admittedly done the apple way, so much more attractive and well done. I vaguely remember something negative about Opera, but I think it from some some ago and many, many versions past. GoLive saw fit to base it's preview on Opera.
So do tell what the bleep is wrong with it?
