Thanks you for the comments. My site is strictly personal and I do not consider myself a professional web designer. I leave that to you who know what you are doing. Every day I learn more, but there is still much to learn. After all, I'm still working in HTML.
I do use p tags in divs and also float images left and right to wrap text. I just couldn't figure out how to create a style specifically for text in the div container because it always inherited the external style sheet, but I think I understand now by implementing this:
> #p5text p { > (your styling goes here) }
and...
> If you want to get really smart, you can add stuff like #p5text p + p > which will allow you to change parameters for the subsequent > paragraphs in the target div, the first paragraph will ignore such > instruction precisely because it is the first paragraph, and 'there > can be only one...'
This will take time to absorb, but I will...
One thing I had not thought of was putting the image in a paragraph as in this sample.

When I first started out I did not use CSS, but now use it for styling most things on the pages. It was a revelation when I learned to float left and right! The floats in the style sheet does have padding for margins, but I'm still using pixel. Haven't quite wrapped my brain around em yet. There is still much to learn.
> Regulars know what I'm going to say next, get a Mac (sorry)
I can relate as Macs are elegant and I used one at work, but I can't afford to rebuy all the software. That is why I chose to get another PC when I recently upgraded, and also why I chose XP Pro for the OS. Vista is not friendly for my CS Suite and some of my CS2 programs.
I've also solved the vertical table border implementing suggestions from other posts, but have not uploaded any of the revised pages. I'm going to be apartment sitting in San Francisco this week, so computer access is limited to a Viao laptop that has none of my programs installed. It is essentially a check email and surf the web computer.
I'd like to thank everyone for helping me, and I hope that all goes will when I have a chance to try the div and p tag styling once I return in a week.
