DRM-protected Adobe epub files that are purchased and downloaded online can only be read on the computer (Mac or PC) that was used to make the purchase, via Adobe's Digital Edition app. If you want to export the file to your iPhone or other capable smartphone or other electronic device, you're out of luck. I searched for a third-party solution to break the shackles, to no avail. An Adobe customer care representative suggested that I submit, and urge others to submit, a feature request. This is another example of too-stringent DRM requirements. The music industry seems to have gotten the message, and book publishers need to make some concessions. While I understand their desire to protect their goods, they need to find a better way than by hamstringing their legit customers' use of their product.
If you have the time and inclination, please visit this Adobe suggestion page: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Choose "Digital Edition" as the product, and submit something similar to this: *******Enhancement / FMR********* Exporting purchased DRM-protected epub files to iPhone and other smartphones. Would like to be able to read the DRM-protected files I purchase from my Mac on my iPhone, so need to be able to export them from the Mac. I would like to be able to use the files I purchase at my convenience, on the devices I choose. Thanks.
While this may not currently affect you, it may in the future. So, let 'em know you'd like more options, now.
Thanks, Jerry
