We're putting videos on the web for a client. They're short -- 30 to 90 seconds.
My partner in this project works part time as a "Creative" for Apple. He insists that we can NOT use Flash for the videos because they won't play on an iPhone, iPad, or an iPod Touch. (He's prejudiced, of course, but he's not an "Apple fanboy".) Our target audience is young, upper-to-middle income adults, and very likely to have an iPhone, etc., so his concerns are not misplaced, imho. :-)
He further insists on H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format. It's got to be the "latest-greatest" to make him happy.
I suppose there has been discussions on this topic that I could find in the archives, but, (in light of the very recent Apple/Adobe "falling-out" over Flash), I'm looking for up-to-date information.
What format, techniques, etc., should we be employing so as to achieve maximum penetration for the videos here in the U.S.?
We want small file sizes for quick load time, and maximum compatibility without installing browser plug-ins, and a decent quality/resolution. If things were natively compatible with Apple products besides, that would be a big, big plus.
I don't know which direction to turn. Video formats are so numerous, and so confusing, that I'm lost in the morass of all the information available.
Help!
-- Warmest regards, the Wizard
