At the the risk... no, with the *certainty*... that I'm going to elicit lots of clever comments on this subject, I have a question about Windows IIS severs.
What is it that they can do that an Linux/Apache server can't?
Corollary question: Under what circumstances is a IIS sever necessary and/or preferable to an Apache sever?
Disclaimer: I do NOT want to run .ASP pages, or program in VBScript. (Been there, done that -- I hated it.) PHP and JavaScript work just fine for me, thanks.
I don't have any SQL databases that are necessary to the deployment of the web site, and -- should I need a database -- MySQL should be adequate.
I have a client who has drunk the Microsoft kool-aid, and all things Microsoft are to be preferred in their eyes. They switched the hosting package from Linux to Windows IIS before I came along, and now I want to switch it back. There is no web site. The server space is totally empty.
Reasons I want to switch: Code Red Worm, Nimda virus, etc., ect.
(Yes, those have been patched, but it points out a pattern of security holes I would prefer to avoid.)
Any thoughts?
-- Warmest regards, the Wizard
