Yes, much more going on than I imagined. The gradient or shadow border is what I was trying to achieve.

I will try your suggestion. The frustrating thing is that the vert-table style works on all site pages except for three where the CSS style for the vertical border breaks in Firefox. Nesting a table might not fix it, because I've even tried removing all components, menus, etc and just applying a border to the actual center table and it still breaks in Firefox.
Since only a few pages are affected, I've always thought it was some code messing with the style, or visa versa, but I've spent hours comparing the pages, trying to figure out what's different. So frustrating... like looking for a needle in a haystack.
