Remember about a year ago, when I tried to engage folks into SEO best practices, and the response was "it's been done, don't waste your time"? So I dropped it. But I really had a glimmer of an idea, I think, that wasn't expressed well to you all.
Weeeellll.... my favored GL'ers, I have found some solutions to combat the dreaded "expert SEO" who wants to mess with your sites. Which is what I was trying to fight off: those "experts" who were trying to steal our clients based on voodoo.
So! My humble work in that direction: take the "experts" voodoo away, and hand off to the client for a lot of it. Granted, not all of it, but a huge leap to my mind.
If you are php/mysql enabled, I've dropped code into pages, then used db forms (yep, dreamweaver) to let SEO "experts" to mess with all the page code, meta tags, etc. they want to without my having to listen to them OR, letting them have access to the server. .. My admin for client pages offers "best practices" solutions to each entry, ie, Google only counts the first xx characters, Yahoo counts... xxx... etc.. If the client wants the SEO "expert" to have access to the site via page updates, cool. No harm done. I'm using a combination of solutions including db updates, html page content updates. I can send screen shots to anyone who is interested.
I've packaged this to clients as "don't pay SEO experts $500 a month to do what you're willing to learn" and it's going well. I have real time examples that have proved out 100%. What I don't have nailed is the ambiguous decision making process where "if you pick a low competitive target, we can get you there..." but how many real users pick the low end?? That still eludes my logic track.
Of course, my beloved GL'ers, since db is limited to GL6, I've moved on to DW. Transition was hard, but I'm ok with it now, and any GL'er who wants my humble opinion or help offlist, just holler. This list helped / helps me, so very happy to return help.
So if any GL'ers who want to have the page code, db set up, to enable users to make changes to all seo issues, send me an email off list and I'll show you what I've figured out.
