I believe I have solved the working issues with swfObject on pages that you have used menumachine on. It's simply a matter of putting your script at the end of the page after everything else so it stays out of the menus way using a dynamic method that simply targets a div id, so it doesn't really matter where the script is. So with my flash movie issues solved I began to think about the index page where there is a song that starts playing as soon as you enter the site, I know, I know, bad practice, but this client is a DJ and by trade he thinks he should be noisy. It really doesn't seem to deter business since he's getting more work in the off season via this site in our declining economy then ever.
Anyways I'm getting pickier about validation, clean code etc, not sure if it's Miles or Coda, but anyways all the previous versions stunk. So I thought why can't I use flash for this so I went on walk about on Google and found this:
http://ksanlab.com/player/
I'd really just like to make my own somewhat similar to this in flash(I have CS3 Flash), but I don't know exactly how, so if anyone knows of a tutorial it would be helpful. At any rate it plays mp3 files that are controlled by an xml page, so you can control the order and have as many as you want. Very easy to implement and designed to run with swfobject. However 3 catches, one it only works with the old version of swfobject.js, which he provides, secondly even though right now I have the auto play turned to false( the client will grumble) depending the browser that only works sometimes, and thirdly although you can easily switch to the songs, you can't see what is available until you get there. It does validate and seems to play everywhere, but Safari and IE7 behave as supposed to, however FF on Mac and Win start playing immediately, although you can shut it off. IE8 however joined the crowd and starts to play immediately too.
I suspect a player designed in flash action script 3 for flash 9 combined with swfobject.js 2 would be more compliant and work better.
Any suggestions or help here, other then you hate music on a page? It's at:
http://www.musicmastersdjs.net/index.htm
Some of it is pretty loud so watch your volume and there's actually some pretty good tunes here depending on your taste, so if you spend to much time here just listening to the music....you were warned.. :)
TIA Dave
